What we collect
Watchdog is an uptime and journey monitoring service. We collect only the data required to operate it:
- Probe results. HTTP status codes, response latencies, DNS resolution outcomes, and TLS certificate metadata for the targets you configure. This is the core of the service.
- Status reports. Aggregated JSON reports (infrastructure, MVP portfolio, user journeys) stored on our own infrastructure to power the dashboard, badge, and API.
- Authentication cookie. If you log in to the private dashboard, we set a single
HttpOnly; SameSite=Strict cookie that persists for 30 days. No other cookies are set. No tracking pixels. No analytics scripts.
What we do NOT collect
- No personal data from visitors to monitored sites. Our probes hit your public endpoints; we never see your users' traffic, cookies, or PII.
- No third-party analytics, ad trackers, or fingerprinting on any Watchdog page.
- No telemetry from the SDK or MCP server. They run entirely in your environment.
Public by design
The status badge (/badge.svg), the open manifest (/.well-known/watchdog.json), and per-target badges are intentionally public. They exist so anyone — your users, your team, your agents — can verify your uptime claim without an account. Do not put sensitive data in target names or journey labels; they appear in public JSON.
Third-party services
- Cloudflare. Serves our public pages via CDN/tunnel. Cloudflare sees standard request metadata (IP, user-agent) per their privacy policy.
- ntfy.sh. If you enable alerting, status-change notifications are POSTed to a public ntfy topic you choose. ntfy.sh sees the alert payload. Use a private ntfy server or webhook channel for sensitive alert content.
Data retention
Probe reports are retained on our infrastructure for trend analysis (default: rolling history in JSONL). You may request deletion of your target configuration and associated reports at any time.
Your rights
GDPR/CCPA: we process no personal data about your end users. For your own account data (target configs, alert history), you may request access, correction, or deletion by contacting us.
